How to Build Website Authority From Scratch with a Brand New Website

Posted: 14 Sep 2011 05:49 AM PDT

When you first build a website and you are starting out from scratch, it can be difficult to build authority.

Some people find it downright impossible.

For example, many online marketers will keep putting up new content on their website, and they might build a few links here and there, but nothing is really happening for them.  They can’t seem to gain any traction or get the search engines interested.

Others might build plenty of links, but they are not seeing results either.  They put up lots of new posts, point links at almost all of them, and hit their home page with links as well.  But they aren’t getting anywhere.

Let Google tell you where your authority is at

Instead of just putting up dozens of new posts and pointing a thin layer of backlinks at everything, stop for a moment and let Google tell you what they like about your website.

Get a base of posts built up. Start building links as outlined in our program. Maybe get about 30 or so articles up on your website and then see where things are at.

If you look at your stats or your tracking, Google will show you what to focus on. What you want to do is to “find your winner” and then maximize it.

There are 2 things that you might look at in terms of tracking. One is to look at the actual keywords that brought you traffic. The other thing you might look at is the top landing pages for search engines.

Look through both of those things until you can determine your “winner.” With any given website, there is one keyword that is driving more traffic than any of the other keywords. Likewise, with any given website, there is also one article that is getting more search engine traffic than the others.

Your job is to look at your stat logs and find which article is your “winner.”

This is your starting point. Google already likes this post of yours. They are already sending it traffic.

So, in order to make your website more powerful, the idea is to make this article more powerful. You can build website authority by building the authority of a single article.

For that, we suggest a simple 2 step process.

The 2 step process for building post authority

Here are the 2 steps that you should take once you identify your “winner”:

1) Expand the content. Make the post longer and more detailed. Add value to the post by adding words. Make it richer, more detailed, and more insightful. Make the article longer, but make sure it is quality.

2) Get a high quality link for the article. Best is to get a real guest post, and have them link directly to the article.

That’s it. This simple 2 step process is powerful enough to grow a brand new website into a serious online income.

“Create high quality articles and then promote them with links.” This has always been the case, but with this strategy, you are leveraging your existing trust with Google, and then amplifying it. You are taking what works, and then improving it.

Find your “winner,” the article on your site that Google likes the most, and then expand it and promote it.

Why we Lean Toward a One-Site Approach to Building an Online Business

Posted: 09 Sep 2011 07:18 AM PDT

Many students here at TKA have wondered why we have shifted to a one-site approach. There has been much debate about this in our discussion forums as well.

While we do realize that there are in fact benefits to having multiple websites, our tendency is to push our students to focus on building up one quality site.

Here is why:

* Competitive nature of the web – There are websites out there that cover every possible topic and niche immaginable. Certainly, you could build out a small niche site that covers any given topic in some amount of detail.

But think about this: someone out there is dedicating their life to it. Someone out there is working on a website in your particular niche full time.

And even worse, there are some niches that are so competitive that a single website might have an entire staff working on it full time.

If you are trying to juggle multiple websites, can you really compete with someone who is dedicated to a single topic? Probably not.

* Increasing emphasis on domian authority - The search engines seems to be slowly shifting away from ranking pages based on keyword anchored text links, and more towards ranking pages based on content and the overall domain authority.

Building domain authority is hard work. Each quality link that you get is a battle that you must fight for.

Now imagine that you have 10 websites, and you work on them for an entire year, trying to increase your ability to rank for keywords on each one of them.

Now imagine that you just have one website, and you put all of your energy into the same thing, and try to increase your domain authority over the course of a year.

Putting all of your efforts into one website will give you the edge that you need as the algorithm continues to shift more and more in favor of trust, age, and authority.

* Authenticity – If you have 100 websites, can you be authentic in your writing on all of them? Probably not. The search engines want to see a human being behind the content that actually cares, not a gigantic farm of content that just rehashes old ideas.

Isn’t putting all of your eggs into one basket risky? How does the TKA program reduce this risk?

There are at least 3 ways that our program mitigates this risk and helps to build a sustainable income with just one website:

1) Extremely thorough topic selection – We walk the student through a rigorous topic selection process that insures there is enough volume in search traffic to create a profitable website.

2) Commercial activity checks - We also make sure that each topic is screened for commercial potential before a student starts building it out into a website.

3) Safe promotional strategies – Our link building methods focus on getting “real links” rather than manufacturing lots of lower quality links. This is hard to do but we devote entire chapters of our program to walk-through tutorials and guides on how to acquire the most valuable links in your niche.

4) Quality + volume – When you focus on one site, you get both quality AND volume. Google finds this combination very hard to ignore in the long run.

A question of scale – you are only one person!

If you happen to have a staff of internet marketers and professional writers at your disposal, then you might do well to have multiple websites.

However, if you are building this business for yourself, and by yourself, you would do well to stick to a single authority website.

“Do one thing and do it well.” You minimize your risk when you focus on quality. Make your one website so good that Google would look foolish not to send you traffic.
