Unconventional Relationship Building 101 – TKA Style Website Promotion

Posted: 23 Sep 2011 07:26 AM PDT

If you do a quick web surfing drive-by in the A-list blogging world, you’ll see some pretty typical advice about how to build relationships with your fellow webmasters:

* Leave comments on their websites.

* Email them and be friendly, etc.

* Find websites that agree with your viewpoints to engage with.

And so on.

But here at the Keyword Academy, we have our own process for relationship building, one that we thing goes beyond the typical suggested A-list process.

What do we do different? Let’s take a look:

So essentially this is only a two step process. Pretty simple really.

The first step is to actually find the websites in your niche that are linking out. The sad fact is that many sites, in fact probably most sites, do not really link out to other websites for any reason. They just sort of stay put as an island and do their own thing.

Now the thing is, if you follow traditional relationship building tactics, you will likely waste a whole lot of time trying to impress the wrong people, and wasting energy asking for links from people who have no intention of linking out.

With TKA, our intention is not to waste time or effort. Therefore, our program includes specific instructions for finding out which websites in your niche are willing to give out a link. This is where you should spend you efforts.

The second step is to “wow” them with content. This can be a blog comment, a forum response to them, or even just a simple email pitch. Any of these methods might be appropriate, and the actual venue is not what is important here. What is important is that you “wow” them with your absolute best content, such that they will become more eager to link to you at some point.

You can do this in many ways, but choose the place that will have the most impact. Maybe you will leave a comment on their latest post that is actually better and more in-depth than the post itself. Don’t just make a long comment. Actually think it through, add value, wow them with the time you spend crafting a response.

Treat this like you would an article on your own website. Craft the content. Organize it. No filler allowed. Make it ooze with value, insight, and expertise.

Once you have done these two steps, the rest should follow naturally. An eventual guest post with a link back to your site is the ultimate goal. But this here is the setup. This is what will seal the deal and put you on their radar.

Consider this the “sniping” approach to building a relationship. You find a relationship that is worth pursuing, then you fire an opening shot that cannot be missed.
